Worship

St. Luke’s offers services of Holy Eucharist on both Sundays and Thursdays, and Evening Prayer on Wednesdays.  Each service has its own character and feel, appealing to the diverse spiritual needs of our congregation, from quiet and contemplative to stirring and energized.  Though unique, all are traditional, liturgical offerings in the Anglican tradition.

Altar Guild is a holy ministry of welcome whose work is done in preparation for the worship service. The dedicated women and men in this group lovingly and prayerfully clean linens, polish brass, check vestments and hangings for proper liturgical color, and prepare the altar table with wine and wafers for Eucharist. It is with grateful thanksgiving that I serve in this vital ministry.

Music

St. Luke’s is blessed by the talent of many wonderful vocalists and musicians who offer their gifts to the glory of God by enriching our worship through music. Congregational singing, choral anthems, and instrumental pieces all draw us closer to God by following his command to “Make a joyful noise.”

As I travel on my spiritual journey, I grow in faith with each hymn, psalm, and anthem I sing. As one of my choir directors once said, “If you pay close attention to the words, you can find a sermon in them, a real message of hope.” I have found through the years that song is my medium of prayer. Many times after a particular hymn or anthem that I have needed to hear, there are those few milliseconds in which I experience the “peace that passeth all understanding.” To use Deacon Art’s expression: I am in my ‘thin place’ where I feel the presence of God. Being a part of a church congregation that supports music makes St. Luke’s a special place to worship. I feel truly blessed.
