Music at St. Luke's St. Luke's Episcopal Church is enriched through beautiful music and two wonderful choirs. We are blessed here at St. Luke's by a wonderful selection of vocalists and musicians whose talents are coordinated by Dr. Andrea Dismukes, our Director of Music. As part of our Episcopal tradition we use The Hymnal 1982 as our primary source for service music and hymns, while the anthems sung by our choirs are drawn from a wide variety of sources, traditional and contemporary. Special Occasions Throughout the year we have special occasions set aside for evening worship lead by the Adult Choir. Services of Choral Evensong, Advent Lessons and Carols, and Feast of Lights, lead jointly with the Youth, are times for Scripture, music, and quiet contemplation to guide us in our observance of the seasons. "Lift every voice and sing!" St. Luke's Adult Choir
The Adult Choir is an instrumental part of our worship at St. Luke's. They rehearse twice during the week and sing at the late worship service every Sunday morning. The choir sets the tone for worship through music, offering anthems to the glory of God and leading the congregation in hymns of praise. St. Cecilia's Choir Bach's Lunch/Concert Series The first three Wednesdays of Advent we offer a noon concert by local performers followed by a light lunch. Each concert is a blend of sacred and secular music held in observance of the coming Christmas season. St. Cecilia's Children's Choir is open to all children of the parish from ages four through sixth grade. They rehearse once a week and sing at the late service once a month with several special performances throughout the school year. Guest Musicians Occasionally St. Luke's hosts guest musicians and singers during our Sunday morning services. These occasions are an opportunity to hear beautiful music offered to enrich our worship and feature the gifts God has given us. *The 8:00am Holy Eucharist Rite I service, year round, features organ and congregational singing, with anthems and solo performances featured on special occasions. There is no music at the 9:30am Holy Eucharist Rite II service from September-May. |
