ST. LUKE’S HABITAT PROJECT

St. Luke’s is sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity home build as part of the Habitat’s Apostles Build 2008 program. We are helping with both financial contributions and good old-fashioned “elbow grease” to build the home! We are helping build a home for the Word family. It is designated as House #59.

We are looking again for some St. Luke’s volunteers to come to the home construction work site on designated Saturday mornings starting in the late May and June/July time frame. Starting dates and actual work schedules are yet to be determined. We need volunteers of all types who can saw, hammer, nail, etc., and we need a few folks who might assemble a small lunch time picnic for the group. (simple fair as in sandwiches and drinks.)

Last fall, a group of St. Luke’s volunteers went to the Taylor Home build site and had a good time lending a hand. We learned how to properly cut stair risers, put up a front porch with decorative rails, and install high-tech roof ventilation panels in the ceiling area. We also learned that sheet rock chunks and plywood roofing panels can be pretty heavy! The work site was busy and the morning flew by as we did numerous assigned tasks.

Ask Deb Huffstetler, Ray and Bondy Hackett, Marsha and Bob St. John, and Les Gassaway about their on-site experiences last fall. We can fill you in on how it worked. We could use some more St. Luke’s folks to make a robust work crew for any given Saturday.

By the way, when you volunteer, you can pick and choose your Saturdays to work with the group. You don’t have to work all of them! Any and all help is appreciated!

We will be working along side and with other churches in the area. It’s a fun and rewarding event and at the end you can see what was accomplished by a true community effort!

Con Bob St. John at 423-650-7521 or 479-2479 if you are interested and he will get you a volunteer form and appropriate info about Habitat and the work site!

Hope to see you there!
